The Decemberists are an indie-rock band from Portland, Oregon. Founded by lead singer/songwriter Colin Meloy in 2000, the line-up consists of Meloy, Chris Funk, Jenny Conlee, Nate Query, and John Moen. The Decemberists are renowned for their creative songwriting, combining elements of folk, pop, rock, and 19th-century balladry. The band has released seven studio albums since their 2001 self-titled debut, and is best known for their 2006 breakthrough LP The Crane Wife. This album spawned the Billboard Hot 100 hit 'O Valencia!', and was later adapted into a musical. The Decemberists have also garnered critical acclaim for their live shows, featuring elaborate concept sets and narrative song cycles. They are one of the most influential rock bands of the 2000s indie scene, and continue to tour to this day.
