Dominican music legend Alex Bueno, born Alejandro Wigberto Bueno López on September 6, 1963, in San José de las Matas, Dominican Republic, passed away on June 18, 2026, in New York City at the age of 62. Bueno was renowned for his contributions to merengue, bachata, salsa, and bolero, leaving an indelible mark on Caribbean music.

Bueno's musical journey began in the late 1970s when he joined Gerardo Vera's All-Stars after winning a national contest. In 1982, he co-founded Orquesta Liberación, gaining international acclaim before embarking on a successful solo career in the 1990s. His versatile voice and emotive performances produced timeless hits such as "Colegiala," "Qué Vuelva," and "El Jardín Prohibido."

In September 2025, Bueno was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Despite undergoing surgery and treatment in the United States, his health deteriorated due to metastasis.
