1927 is an Australian rock band that formed in Sydney in 1987. Heavily influenced by British rock bands like The Cure, Depeche Mode and Simple Minds, 1927 released their first album, ...Ish, in 1988. Four more albums followed, including the number-one album, ...then and Now, in 1993 and the 1999 double Live Platinum album, The Other Side. From the mid-1990s through the 2000s, 1927 enjoyed a string of gold, platinum and multi-platinum albums, supported by extensive national tours and a string of hits, including the number-one single, "Compulsory Hero". 1927 continues to tour and record today, still led by original founding members/principle composers Bill Effen and Eric Weideman.
