Cecile McLorin Salvant is an American jazz singer, pianist and composer. She began her musical career at a young age and trained as both a classical soprano and as an actress at the South Miami K-8 Center for the Arts and at New World School of the Arts. She released her first album, WomanChild, in 2013, to critical acclaim and won the first of her two Grammy Awards. Rock and jazz critics have praised her mature and evocative interpretations of material from the 1920s and 1930s. Salvant has released four studio albums, the most recent being The Window in 2020. Outside of her albums, she has performed with renowned jazz musicians, including Stefon Harris, Joe Lovano, and Jacky Terrasson. She has also collaborated with the multi-platinum hip-hop artist Wyclef Jean.
