Jason Newsted is an American musician and songwriter, best known as the bassist for the heavy metal band Metallica from 1986 to 2001. Born on March 4, 1963, in Battle Creek, Michigan, Newsted joined Metallica following the tragic death of bassist Cliff Burton and contributed to several of the band's seminal albums, including "...And Justice for All" and the Grammy Award-winning "Metallica" (The Black Album). After leaving Metallica, he played in bands like Echobrain, Voivod, and his own project, Newsted.
