About Kevin Barnes

Kevin Barnes is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, best known as the lead singer and primary songwriter for the indie rock band of Montreal. Based in Athens, Georgia, Barnes formed of Montreal in 1996, and has since released fourteen studio albums ranging from experimental pop to psychedelic rock. Barnes has been praised for his creative lyricism and vocal range. His songs often explore surrealist themes of relationships, mental illness, and identity. In addition to his work with of Montreal, Barnes has collaborated with some of indie music's most innovative artists, including Deerhoof, Neutral Milk Hotel, and Janelle Monae. He has also embarked on two solo tours, and in 2007 was honored with an OutMusic Award for his impact on the LGBTQ+ music community.
