He is well known for his modern classical works, including two BBC Prom concerts, and for his music for film and television, including the HBO series 'The Leftovers' and the 2016 feature film 'Arrival' which earned him Golden Globe nominations. He has recently worked on the score for the critically acclaimed 'Hostiles', 'Ad Astra' and 'Mary Queen of Scots'. In 2018, Max was named a "BBC Artist of the Year".
