About Neil Murray

Neil Murray is a Scottish songwriter and musician who rose to fame as a founding member of the popular alternative rock group, The Skids. He has pursued a successful solo career since leaving The Skids in the early 1980s, releasing nine albums and touring extensively throughout Europe. He has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Van Morrison, Big Country, and Steve Earle. Neil’s extensive songwriting credits include co-writing the classic Rod Stewart hit “Young Turks”, as well as songs for Clannad and Shalamar. He has earned widespread respect in the music community for his lyrical and instrumental talent, earning many awards and nominations throughout his long career. He continues to perform live, most recently hosting two music festivals in Scotland in 2018-2019.
