About New York Philharmonic
The New York Philharmonic is one of the world's leading and most acclaimed orchestras. Founded in 1842, it is the oldest-standing orchestra in the United States and remains one of the most respected. Led by music director Alan Gilbert, the New York Phil harmonic is a versatile musical force, playing performances of traditional and modern classical music, film screenings with live orchestral accompaniment, and free community concerts. They give more than 200 performances a year, both at their home base at David Geffen Hall in New York City and around the world through extensive tours. They have made more recordings than any other ensemble, and their discography includes some of the most important works of classical music ever recorded.
