Public Enemy is an American hip hop group formed in Long Island, New York in 1982. They are considered to be pioneers in the genre and are well known for their influential albums including "Yo! Bum Rush the Show" (1987), "It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back" (1988), and "Fear of a Black Planet" (1990). Public Enemy became famous for their powerful use of words and music that highlighted provocative themes. Their lyrics often contain criticism of government, religion, and consumerism. Public Enemy have been credited with inspiring political rap acts, most notably, The Coup and Dead Prez. The group has remained active since their formation, releasing their latest album, "Nothing Is Quick in the Desert," in 2017. They continue to tour and perform at festivals around the world.
