The New Christs are an Australian garage rock band formed in Sydney in 1984. The original lineup was composed of Rob Younger (Radio Birdman), Deniz Tek (Radio Birdman), Kent Steedman (The Celibate Rifles), Kim Salmon (The Scientists), and Ron Keeley (The Hitmen). The band released two albums, “Distemper” (1985) and “Lower Yourself” (1987). Their primary influences include punk rock, blues, and proto-punk. They paved the way for alternative rock in Australia. The band has played extensively in Australia and the UK, as well as in Europe and the US. Their legacy continues to live on, and their music has been cited as influential by a variety of notable bands, both in Australia and abroad.
