Douglas McCarthy is a pioneer of electronic music. He was born in 1956 in Manchester, UK and is best known as a singer and composer for the influential band Nitzer Ebb which he founded in 1982. He was one of the first to bring a live physical presence to electronic music, and his combination of heavy dance beats and confrontational vocals was strongly influential in the development of genres from industrial music to techno and EBM. McCarthy released four studio albums with Nitzer Ebb as well as other solo projects and collaborations. In 2011 he released an album called Kill Your Friends, his first solo album in twelve years. He has also produced for various projects including his own techno project Dou Bt Ach. His music has influenced a legion of artists and continues to challenge modern music conventions.
