Geoff Tate is an American singer and musician from Tacoma, Washington, best known as the lead singer of the progressive metal band Queensrÿche. Tate started his career as vocalist and co-founder of the band in 1982. He has a vocal range of four octaves, and has released five solo studio albums beginning in 2002. Tate's influence in the metal genre is recognized as one of the most influential singers of the 1980s and 1990s. He has also collaborated and recorded with many other artists. In 2012, Tate's voice was included in the video game Call of Duty: Black Ops II and collaborated with the band Van Canto on a cover of the Iron Maiden song "Fear of the Dark". In recent years, Tate has been involved in reunion and touring projects, including a tour with his former bandmates.
