About France
France, real name France Gall, was a French pop musician who rose to fame in the 1960s. She debuted her career in the early 1960s and worked closely with producer Serge Gainsbourg. She achieved early success with Gall's own compositions, and she won the 1965 Eurovision Song Contest with her Gainsbourg-penned number "Poupée de cire, poupée de son". Her follow-up singles were all major hits in France, including the classic "Laisse tomber les filles", and she even gained success in the English-speaking world with her album Baby Pop, released in 1966. In the 1970s, Gall began to explore new musical styles, such as progressive rock. She enjoyed modest success with a variety of solo albums until she retired from the music industry in the early 1990s.
