Mercury Rev is an American alternative rock band formed in 1989 in Buffalo, New York. The band is composed of songwriters David Baker and Jonathan Donahue, along with Sean "Grasshopper" Mackowiak and Jeff Mercel. They have released nine albums to date, including their breakout release Deserter’s Songs in 1998, which was met with widespread critical acclaim and success. Other subsequent albums, All Is Dream, The Secret Migration, and Snowflake Midnight, have gone on to receive similar critical success. Mercury Rev's music can often be found refusing to be categorized to a single genre, incorporating elements of classic rock, alternative, post-rock, experimental, and others to create a sound that is unmistakably their own.
