Rick Astley is an English singer-songwriter best known for his 1987 number one single, “Never Gonna Give You Up”. Before achieving global superstardom, Astley was a drummer and singer in the 1980s band "FBI", and released his debut single, "When You Gonna" in 1985.

In 1987, Astley released his iconic debut album, "Whenever You Need Somebody", which featured the #1 breakout hit, "Never Gonna Give You Up", and also had 3 other singles reach the UK top 5. He achieved massive success and his album went at least Gold in 12 countries.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he had a string of hits across the world and won the prestigious Ivor Novello award. He became known for his late night TV appearances and sales of over 40 million records, 19.5 million of them being his debut album.
