Shingai Shoniwa is a Zimbabwean-English singer-songwriter and bassist. She is best known as the lead vocalist and bassist of the British rock band The Noisettes. Her powerful and unique vocals, have been described as combining an “arty, soulful instrument” with a cheery expression. After the dissolution of The Noisettes, Shingai embarked on a successful solo career. She released her debut EP, The Fourth Tribe, in 2016, and her debut album, Ancient Futures, in 2018. Shingai has been praised for her powerful vocal performances, electrifying stage presence, and compassionate activism. In 2020, her single "I'm Not Here" was featured in HBO's I Know This Much is True series. She has made headlines on numerous occasions for numerous performances at festivals all over the world, and for her support of ongoing conversations about gender and race.
