The Monkees were an American pop rock band that formed in Los Angeles in 1965. The group consisted of Mickey Dolenz, Davy Jones, Peter Tork, and Michael Nesmith, and they were initially produced as a rock band for a television show of the same name. Throughout their career, they released several No. 1 singles, such as “I’m a Believer,” “Daydream Believer,” and “Last Train to Clarksville.” By 1967, their debut album was the fastest selling album in U.S. history and in the same year, they became the first band to ever have three consecutive No. 1 albums. They broke up in 1971, however, they have reunited several times and in 2016, won the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammy’s.
