Týr is a Faroese folk metal band, founded in 1998, that is most famous for their Viking-inspired lyrics. The band has released ten studio albums, two EP's, one live album, one DVD, and one compilation album. One of their most famous songs is 'Hold the Heathen Hammer High' from the album "By The Light Of The Northern Star" (2009). The band has a unique sound that blends traditional Viking-style folk music with heavy metal and progressive rock elements. Týr has seen their greatest success as a live band, continuously performing fan favorites and new tunes throughout Europe, North America, and Japan. The band has been nominated for many awards, including the 2008 Nordic Music Prize for Best Album.
