John Patitucci is an American jazz bassist and composer, widely respected throughout the jazz and fusion scenes. Starting out as a jazz bass player in the early 80s, he swiftly gained recognition for his combination of American roots music, rhythm and blues, gospel, and jazz. He has played on more than 500 records with some of jazz's most legendary figures, such as Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Wayne Shorter, and McCoy Tyner. He has also toured with those artists, as well as with Sting and Joni Mitchell. He has recorded for Blue Note Records and twice won the coveted Best Jazz Instrumental Performance, soloist Grammy Award. Patitucci is also an adjunct professor at the Juilliard School (New York City) and the New England Conservatory (Boston). In 2018, John was honored with an Eubie Blake Jazz Award in recognition of his masterful recordings, performances and contributions to the jazz world.
