About Maceo Parker

Maceo Parker is an American funk and soul jazz saxophonist, and singer. He was a key part of James Brown's band in the 1960s and has worked with many other notable musicians including George Clinton and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. His biggest solo hit was "Pass the Peas" (1972), which was also the title of his debut album.
Maceo was appointed a Master of Music by the University of North Carolina and the University of Rochester. He has continued to perform and record through the decades and is recognized as one of the all-time greats of funk. Many of his live performances have been documented on several live albums released in the late 1980s and 1990s. He has collaborated with De La Soul, Prince, Dave Matthews Band, and most recently, Ray Charles.
