About Average White Band
Formed in Scotland in 1972, Average White Band (AWB) is an R&B and funk band known for their unique sound rooted in soul, jazz, and pop. AWB was the first ever white band to win a Soul Train Music Award in 1975 for their song “Pick Up the Pieces”, which is also their most well-known single. The band kicked off the Disco Era, having toured with notable acts like KC & The Sunshine Band and Bette Midler. Their 1975 self-titled album peaked at number six in the US, and spawned countless hits including “Cut the Cake”, and “A Love of Your Own”. After disbanding in 1983, they reunited in 1989 for an album and toured until 2000. Today, AWB continues to tour and is often cited as an inspiration for modern neo soul and funk music.
