CAKE is an alternative rock band from Sacramento, California formed in 1991. The band is composed of John McCrea (vocals, guitar), Vince DiFiore (trumpet, keyboard, backing vocals), Xan McCurdy (guitar), Gabe Nelson (bass), and Todd Roper (drums). CAKE’s musical style draws from a range of genres and influences, including alternative rock, country, electronica, funk, punk, rap, and surf. Throughout their career, the band has had consistently limited traditional media exposure, opting instead for a unique DIY marketing strategy, relying heavily on word of mouth to promote their music. CAKE’s debut album, Motorcade of Generosity, was released in 1994, and the group’s most successful album, Prolonging the Magic was released in 1998 and certified Gold.
