Assal is an Iranian-born American singer/songwriter and composer, who blends traditional Persian musical styles and western sounds. She creates a unique type of music that utilizes the sound of the traditional Persian tanbur alongside electronic elements, as well as traditional Persian lyrics and modern English lyrics.

Born in Iran but now based in Los Angeles, Assal's musical style is gaining much attention both in the US and abroad. Her 2018 debut album, For You, was hailed as “a collection of shimmering folk tunes that reveal a deep well of spirituality and an equally powerful vulnerability”. Her 2019 follow-up album, Moon and Sun, reached No. 1 on the iTunes World Music Chart. Singles from the album earned her two BMI Awards, and she was honored as MTV Iggy’s Artist of the Month.

Assal has also composed for films such as the 2014 film I Am Not Salvador and the 2016 feature film Man in the Mirror. She
