About The Commitments
The Commitments is an Irish soul music group formed in 1987. They are best known for their album The Commitment which spawned hits like "Try a Little Tenderness," "Mustang Sally," and "Take Me to the River," which helped spread their popularity throughout the world. The band was initially comprised of members from Dublin, Ireland and London, England and featured the vocal skills of singers including Andrew Strong and Linda Király. Throughout their career, The Commitments performed primarily on the Irish and UK music scenes, and toured extensively in the United States, Europe, Japan, and the United Kingdom. The group also had a number of their tracks featured in and/or released on various film soundtracks, including a cover of the Barry White hit "Never Never Gonna Give Ya Up" in 1997. The Commitments ultimately disbanded in 2012 after leading singer Andrew Strong pursued a solo career.
