Pete Rock, aka Peter Phillips, is a legendary hip-hop producer and DJ from New York. He is well-known for a signature sound that blends elements of jazz, soul, and R&B into his hard-hitting mix of hip hop beats. Pete Rock started as a DJ alongside DJ Premiere in 1988 and quickly rose to prominence as a producer featuring on groundbreaking albums from Roxanne Shante, Rakim, Heavy D, Jay-Z and Nas. He is probably most widely known for his work producing the seminal duo; Pete Rock & CL Smooth, with whom he dropped the classic 1992 single 'T.R.O.Y. (They Reminisce Over You). Since then, Rock has gone on to produce hits for a wide range of artists including Ghostface Killah and Busta Rhymes and has also dropped various legendary solo albums, including 1994's 'Soul Survivor'.
